1925 Norse American Commemorative Coin, Thick Variety

This 1925 Norwegian-American Centennial coin is a rare collector's item featuring a unique octagonal design with an image of a brave Norwegian explorer in full armour in relief on the obverse. Surrounding the rim is the inscription ‘NORSE AMERICAN CENTENNIAL 1825-1925’ commemorating the centennial of the landing of Norwegian immigrants in the United States. The surface of the coin has been precipitated over the years, and the silver-grey metallic luster shows a calm pulp, the thickness of the coin exceeds that of conventional coins, and the reverse side of the coin is engraved with the pattern of ships and ears of wheat to symbolise the pioneering journey to the New World. 1925 centenary minting of thick commemorative coins, with a scarcity of survivors, has the value of both historical research and collection and investment.
